Quick answer
How do I move the preview when I zoom in?
Right-drag the preview, or drag it with two fingers on a touch screen. In the flat view, zoom in with the magnifier first. In the 3D view, it works at any zoom. Zooming back out centers the view again.
How do I stop the 3D preview from turning?
Press Auto-rotate at the bottom left of the 3D view. The model then stays still until you turn it. Press it again to start the turning. Filafy keeps your choice on this browser.
The detail
The preview is not just a picture of the result. It is where most of the work happens, and it has more in it than it looks.
- Flat or 3D. The 3D Preview toggle swaps the flat artwork for the actual printed object, on both the Design and Download steps. Drag to turn it, right-drag to move it, scroll to zoom. It is the honest answer to “what will this look like on the shelf”. It matters most for a border or a hanging hole. On a model of several parts, Design shows only the part with your image. Auto-rotate, at the bottom left of the 3D view, stops the model turning by itself, or starts it again.
- Hold to compare. Press and hold to flip the preview back to your original image. It stays flipped for as long as you hold, in either view. It is the fastest way to judge whether a style is doing what you hoped.
- A red line under the preview. It says why these settings cannot print, for example an image moved off the face. Do what it says, and Convert comes back when the preview paints again. Until then Filafy queues nothing and spends no credit.
- Zoom. The magnifier in the corner zooms the flat artwork, or dollies the camera in the 3D view. Both surfaces that show a print have one. When you zoom in, right-drag the preview to move the view, or drag it with two fingers on a touch screen. A plain drag still moves your image. In the 3D view, right-drag moves the view at any zoom. Zoom back out to center the view again.
- Undo and redo. Under the preview, and on the keyboard as Ctrl+Z, or ⌘Z on a Mac and Ctrl+Shift+Z, or ⇧⌘Z on a Mac. A whole slider drag counts as one step, not thirty, so undo goes back to where you actually were. It never crosses a project boundary: a fresh upload starts a fresh history.
- Guides. Open Guides under the flat preview to show a grid or a scale bar. Pick thirds, an even grid, a real-size grid or center lines. The scale bar shows a real length on the print, in your units, and changes with the zoom. Your grid type stays for the next project, but the grid and the bar start off each time. On Setup, Guides draws the same grids on the painted face, with no scale bar.
- Name the project. The name field at the top of the download panel names the project in My Projects, and names the file you download. A folder of prints is then readable a month later. Rename it there or from any project card later on.
