Quick answer
Can I put several images on one print?
Yes, up to 10 on one face. They share one style, one palette and one credit. A Free form takes one image.
How do I make my image fill the face?
On Design, select the image and press Zoom to fit. It sizes the image to fill the face, on a tall face too. Reset image puts it back where it started.
The detail
Place each image. Drag to place it, drag a corner handle to resize, and use the knob above it to rotate. Snap to edges lines it up flush with the face. Switch to Free form to put it anywhere. Zoom to fit sizes the selected image to fill the face, on a tall face too. Reset image puts it back where it started.
Images come straight off an iPhone (JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC). An SVG is rendered in your browser first. Flatten external fonts or linked images into the file, or upload a PNG instead.
Many images on one face
One face can carry up to 10 images at once, arranged however you like. A photo with a logo in the corner, a row of icons, a collage.
- Add them. On Setup, drop or pick several images at once. The first becomes the project’s main image, and the rest land on top of it. You can also add more at any time with Add an image at the foot of the Layout tab.
- Arrange them. Click an image on the preview to select it. Then drag to move it, drag a corner handle to resize, and use the knob above it to rotate. The gestures are the same as for a single image. The one in front wins the click, and the others are outlined so you can see where they are.
- Convert once. The whole face is converted together, so it costs one credit, not one per image.
- One style and one palette for all of them. Filafy picks the filaments for the finished face as a whole, so your Max colors budget is shared between every image. Several busy photos at once will push it. If an image looks flatter than it did on its own, that is the budget. Raise Max colors, or use fewer and simpler images.
- Overlap covers unless you turn an image down. At the default Opacity of 100% whichever image is in front simply wins. Lower an image's Opacity and it mixes with the one below it instead. The print's flat colors are then chosen from the blend. The other ways to let one image show through another are transparency in the image itself. Use a PNG with a transparent background, or Remove background on the selected image.
- The bottom image always prints fully. Opacity is how much of an image shows over the one below it, and the bottom image has none. Its row shows a note in place of the slider. Move an image above another one and its slider comes back.
- Small images lose fine detail. Everything is sized for a real printed part. Shrinking an image shrinks its features toward what your nozzle can actually lay down, and the smallest of them get cleaned away. If a shrunk logo goes mushy, make it bigger or give the print a bigger nozzle’s worth of room.
The first image also names the project. Everything else is per image, background removal included. A Free form takes one image only, because the outline of that image is the model.
How close it gets
All four assume the image has the detail to give. If yours holds fewer pixels than the print can use, the Style tab says so. Filafy enlarges it to fit rather than refusing. When it is too small for enlarging to fill, Setup and the Layout tab warn you too.
