Choose a model
The text this link names is not on a guide page now. Use the search at the end of this page to find it.
Every print is your image on one flat face of a model. Convert opens on the Model step, with three ways to start.
- Your own model. Drop an STL, OBJ or 3MF on Add your 3D model, or press Choose a model file. Slicer project files work, Filafy’s own painted 3MFs included. A model up to 50 MB and a million triangles is fine.
- A model from the library. Search under the upload box or on Models in the top bar. With All selected, the search finds models in the library and in My models. Pick a category chip to search only that category. A model that is larger than the build plate of your default printer shows a warning icon. Point to the icon, or tap it, to see the printer and the reason. Click a model to see its details. Press Use this model to start with it.
- A model you kept. Click the My models chip, or open Models in the top bar. Click a model to use it again with no upload.
A model marked Any size takes the size you type on Setup. Free form builds the model from the outline of your image. Every other model keeps the size of its file.
The face must be flat. A curved surface, such as the side of a mug, cannot take an image. Click one and Filafy says it is too small or not flat enough, so pick another face. A face less than 5 mm wide or tall is too small to paint, and Filafy asks for a larger face.
Some models have a rim that stands higher than the face. They show Prints face up, and your image is then the top layer of the print.
